The Mid-Antrim Museum collects objects which have a provenance relevant to the history of the Ballymena area. Most of the paintings that we hold were commissioned or purchased by Ballymena Borough Council or presented to them over many years. In more recent times, the Museum has collected some more imaginative artworks. We hope to build upon this small collection in years to come. The Museum began in a small former draper’s shop beside Ballymena Town Hall. After 11 years, it moved to a former Royal Mail Sorting Office. In 2008, it found its home in The Braid Museum & Arts Centre which incorporates the Town Hall. Of special interest in our collection are the portraits. Compare and contrast that of John Young of Galgorm Castle with that of Victor Surgeoner, who lived in a hut in local woods.
