In 1991 The Corstorphine Trust was given use of one of the oldest inhabited buildings in the City of Edinburgh, now known as The Corstorphine Heritage Centre (The Dower House) in St Margaret’s Park. At that time, it was derelict. However, with the help of funding and support from Historic Scotland, the Heritage Lottery Fund and generous bequests, we have managed to bring this local historic building back to life and it now forms the heart of our community. The Trust’s collection of paintings consists of items mainly of subjects of local interest and shows many aspects of village life as it was lived, particularly in the nineteenth and early twentieth century. All the paintings in the collection have been acquired over a number of years and have been gifted to the Trust by their previous owners who support our organisation in various ways.
