More about

Sudley House is part of National Museums Liverpool. It was originally bought by George Holt in 1883. He decorated the ground floor rooms much as you see them today to display his art collection which is the only British collection of its kind still in its original setting. Emma Holt, George's daughter died in 1944 and left the house and its paintings to the people of Liverpool. The House has a strong relationship with its local community and regularly hosts historic costume exhibitions from the collections of National Museums Liverpool. Painting collection highlights include 'Angel playing a Flageolet' by Edward Burne-Jones, 'Study' by Frederick Lord Leighton, 'The Wreck Buoy' by Joseph Mallord William Turner and 'Charlotte Bettesworth (c.1755–1841), Mrs John Sargent' by George Romney.
