Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust

More about

Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust (established in 2006) is leading heritage initiatives in a community with a remarkable history spanning two centuries and unique connections with all three Armed Services. The Trust has already collected a significant number of works of art, principally with an aviation or maritime theme reflecting the military history of the town. Among these are several paintings originally donated to the local Royal Air Forces Association club. Upon the closure of the club these were inherited by local heritage organisations and are now part of the Sunderland Trust Collection. Among artists featured is Arthur Banks, a retired GP who in wartime served on a Catalina flying boat squadron. His subjects include fine studies of Catalina and Sunderland flying boats on land, sea and in the air. The Trust is developing strong links with the Guild of Aviation Artists and will benefit from this in the future. It is anticipated and more original works of art will be gifted to the Trust for display at its ‘Fleets to Flying Boats’ Centre in the former Pembroke Royal Dockyard. It also runs the very successful Flying Boat Centre which is unique in the UK.
