The oil painting collection at John Wesley’s House & The Museum of Methodism has been built up over many years. As a group, they are of exceptional historic value to Methodists. Subjects range from landscapes and mythological topics to large-scale works which depict John Wesley preaching outside. The focus of the collection lies on three-quarter length portraits, some of rather fine quality. Many of the paintings depict notable individuals who lived through – and directed – the early days of the Methodist movement. Paintings form only a small part of the collections shown in John Wesley’s House & The Museum of Methodism. These include furniture, metalware, ceramics, textiles and manuscripts, to name but a few.
