More about

Head of Steam – Darlington Railway Museum is located in North Road Station on the 1825 route of the Stockton & Darlington Railway, the world's first steam-worked public railway. The site encompasses three significant Stockton & Darlington Railway buildings of the 1830s/1850s: North Road Passenger Station, the Goods Shed and Hopetown Carriage Works. The Museum holds a small selection of railway related paintings which compliment the collections illustrating the development and operation of railways in North East England. Although regional in scope, in some areas they are of national importance because of their association with the Stockton & Darlington Railway (S&DR).
