More about

Conwy Town Council is very proud to hold a splendid collection of oil paintings. The Council Chamber has three Mayoral portraits, all dating from the late 1800s, the most important of which is of William Hughes, Esq., the first Mayor of Conwy, painted by John Dawson Watson. In the Mayor’s Parlour a number of landscape paintings depict Conwy and its surrounding area. The Conwy Castle and the ferry appear in a romantic painting by Richard Wilson. Conwy is home to the Royal Cambrian Academy and the work of many members appears on the walls, including Emil Albert Krause’s depiction of the rail disaster at Penmaenmawr. George Hayes’ images of Conwy Castle and the High Street sit alongside the very fine landscape ‘A View Looking North along Conway Valley from Caerhun’ by Josiah Clinton Jones.
