More about

Burnfield House, once a school and now home of the museum, was purchased in 1995 with funds raised entirely from private sources. Further fundraising and help from the Heritage Lottery Fund enabled the museum to open in 1999. It is a major community initiative and remains an ongoing community project. Grantown Museum tells the story of Grantown-on-Spey, which was founded in 1765 and is a fine example of an 18th-century planned town, and is brought to life through the museum’s extensive photographic collection. The small collection of oil paintings includes portraits by two distinguished 19th-century artists, Colvin Smith and Sir George Reid
