Zoology is a large, multi-disciplinary Department whose members conduct research and teaching in areas ranging from molecular biology to behavioural ecology. The Department occupies 10,000m2, mostly on the New Museums Site in Central Cambridge. The varied collection of paintings displayed in the Department and Museum of Zoology include a portrait of Charles Darwin, once an undergraduate at the University of Cambridge. During his famous voyage on the 'Beagle', he regularly sent back specimens to his old teacher, Professor Henslow. Some of these specimens, including some of the Galapagos finches, found their way to the University Museum of Zoology. The University Museum of Zoology is open to the public and admission is free. We are open Monday–Friday 10am–4.45pm, and Saturday 11am–4pm. Not all paintings are on display. If you want to see a particular painting, please contact the collection.
