Coventry University Collection holds examples of art by emerging and established artists who have connections with Coventry School of Art & Design. These paintings are part of a broader range of art and design artefacts.
Dating from 1975, the works provide a visual record of the activity of a thriving art school. Particularly poignant for Coventry, this period marks a return to a concern for painting, following the theory-based approach to art practice of the Art and Language movement in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Students on our Fine Art course are encouraged to develop a unique practice; this is reflected in the breadth and diversity of the Collection. The paintings are hung across the campus and some have been exhibited regionally and nationally.
For students, their time with us marks the beginning of their careers and along with staff (John Devane, Jonathan Waller, Graham Chorlton, Vanda Harvey and Craig Barber.) many continue to be active practitioners.
