More about

Buckinghamshire Archives hold collections containing the shared memory of the county of Buckinghamshire, its peoples and its communities. The Service has documents covering 800 years of history, from parish registers to tithe maps, photographs of bizarre street performances to sketches of elephants, the oldest surviving map of an English village, seals of King Henry VIII and a town charter issued by Mary I. We hold a wealth of records related to the inception and history of the Paralympic Games, and the wider disability sports movement, and to the foundation and growth of the city of Milton Keynes. As a Service, we are proud not only to preserve and care for the historic records of Buckinghamshire, but also to make them accessible to all who might be interested, either in our public Searchroom in the heart of Aylesbury, or remotely to those who can’t visit us in person.
