Simon Poë took his first degree, a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, at Leeds Polytechnic, where he studied under Jeff Nuttall among others. He followed this with a Masters by Research at Leeds Metropolitan University for which he worked on the Yorkshire Pre-Raphaelite John Roddam Spencer Stanhope.

He has worked as a self-employed artist-printmaker, as a teacher and trainer and as an artist-in-school.

He has published articles and reviews in numerous publications including the New Statesman, Country Life, Apollo, the Pre-Raphaelite Society Review and the Journal of Pre-Raphaelite Studies. Since 2011 he has been an Associate Editor of The British Art Journal. He has given papers to numerous academic conferences including: ‘Ruskin and the Pre-Raphaelites’ at Marlborough College in 2019; ‘Reassessing Burne-Jones’ at the Ashmolean Museum in 2019; ‘Reading Art: Pre-Raphaelite Poetry and Painting’ at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery in 2016; ‘Pre-Raphalitism: Past, Present and Future’ at the Ashmolean Museum in 2013; ‘Victorian Spiritualities’ at Leeds Centre for Victorian Studies in 2012; ‘GF Bodley and his Circle’ at the Art Workers’ Guild in 2007; and ‘Morris in the 21st Century’ at Royal Holloway College in 2005.

Simon has worked for Kirklees Museums and Galleries since 1999.
