Kate Williams is a historian, author and broadcaster. A specialist in modern history, royal and constitutional affairs, she is Professor in Public Engagement with History at Reading University. She is the author of historical biographies, England's Mistress: The Infamous Life of Emma Hamilton, Becoming Queen, Young Elizabeth: The Making of Our Queen, Josephine: Desire, Ambition, Napoleon, and the novels, The Pleasures of Men and The Storms of War. Her latest book is The Royal Palaces: Secrets and Scandals.
