The most likely candidate for the sitter would appear to be Caroline Julia Craufurd (1845–1922), who was Mrs Alexander Asher, MP, from 1870. It is also possible that the sitter was one of the sculptor's daughters (Mary, b.1842; Helen, b.1844, or Jessie Ann, b.1846).
