The statues are in niches above the main Sauchiehall Street entrance; on the left a standing female figure carries an empty cornucopia, on the right a standing male figure with folded arms. Both are supported by projecting brackets decorated with armorial devices (lion rampant, left, and saltire, right), above stylised horses lying belly up. The bronze shield is in the arch over the main entrance and consists of a Bank of Scotland crest supported by two semi-naked female figures, each holding an inverted cornucopia spilling coins. Above the crest are a medieval helmet and a further cornucopia. Over the windows in the outer bays of the ground floor are blind cartouches enclosed by a rich vocabulary of patriotic emblems and devices associated with trade including crowns, agricultural tools, bulls' and rams' heads, pulley wheels and cornucopias.
