On the inner gate piers, a crowned lion and a unicorn with collar and chain stand looking outwards with the Hanoverian coat of arms in their front legs. On the outer gateposts are an arrangement of war trophies, including an armour-plated Roman tunic, a helmet, shield, standard, sheath of arrows, axe head, trumpet, bow and spiked club. The decorations refer to the royal coat of arms and military victories.
