The three heads represent the Holy Trinity – the Christian belief that there is One God, who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This cast was taken from a thirteenth-century sculpture which was located on the staircase of the Bishop's House, situated beside Elgin Cathedral. The original shows French influence (there are similarities to carvings in Amiens Cathedral), though is of international style.
