This effigy may represent an abbot of Dundrennan Abbey who was assassinated. A dagger can be seen beside his right hand entering his chest. A smaller figure appears at his feet who is being impaled in the head by the abbot's crozier, possibly to symbolise his victory over his assailant after death. This figure beneath the abbot's feet also appears to have received an open wound below his waist exposing his internal organs.
