The exterior sculptural decoration comprises three segmental pediments with reliefs of reclining figures. In the central bay, two schoolboys recline either side of an escutcheon bearing the school’s coat of arms and the dates '1571' and '1894'. Resting on top of the escutcheon is an academic mortarboard and, placed in front, across the bottom, is a sprig of oak. The left-hand boy wears school uniform and reads a book; a pair of dividers fills the space above his shins. The right-hand boy wears cricket whites and holds a cricket bat; the ball is on the ground by his hip; a rugby ball and other sports items fill the space at his feet. The two reclining figures of the left-hand pediment sit on low blocks inscribed 'SCIENCE' and 'PHILOSOPHY'. Science holds a serpent in her left hand and above her right elbow is a classical oil lamp.
