A bronzed plaster bust of Thomas Smith Tait, a Scottish architect who trained at the Glasgow School of Art. Most of Tait’s work was executed when working for John Burnet & Son, or as a partner in Sir John Burnet & Partners, later Burnet, Tait & Lorne. He designed buildings in a distinct Art Deco style, including the pylons on Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Daily Telegraph building (constructed between 1927 and 1928) on Fleet Street, London, and the Unilever Building (constructed between 1930 and 1933) at Blackfriars, London. Tait earned acclaim for his work on the Royal Masonic Hospital at Ravenscourt, London and won a RIBA Gold award for its design 1933.
