A head and chest portrait of Thomas Blackburn, son of William Carr of Blackburn, attorney at law and holder of the Honour of Clitheroe Castle. He lived at Shadsworth House, Blackburn. Thomas followed his father into the law, residing at Blackburn and Clitheroe Castle. He was a trustee for rebuilding Blackburn parish church in 1819–1820. He had two sons and two daughters. The youngest child, Grace Amelia Carr (the donor), was born in 1820 and married Thomas Ashton Esq. of Bashall Lodge, Lancashire in 1840.
