An old man in a toga seated upon a globe which rests on two large books. There is an open book in his left hand, below which stands a woman in a long dress holding a monkey that has a flower in its paws, and under his right hand a man standing in a laboratory coat holding up and examining a test tube. Over the old man's right shoulder is a star, a sextant and a smiling sun, and by his left arm is a retort on a stand being heated by a Bunsen burner.
