On Wednesday 10th June 1668, Pepys wrote that he had: ‘Come to the George Inne, where lay in a silk bed; and very good diet. To supper; then to bed.’ The bustling inhabitants, golden tones and chickens pecking in the yard give the scene a rustic and homely feel.
