This portable folding triptych was made for private devotion. The side panels have been cut down and may have belonged to a different small altarpiece so that the triptych was assembled, or altered, at a later date. The artist was close to Benozzo Gozzoli. St Peter holds his attribute of a key and St Paul a sword, the instrument of his martyrdom. The saintly friar is probably St Dominic.
