A statue depicting a miner pushing the last coal tub before the closure of the South Hetton Colliery in the 1980s. The plinth also bears the names of those who worked at the mine and engraved on the plaque is a poem written by sculptor Ray Lonsdale, dedicated to all those who lived and worked as part of the South Hetton Colliery community.

plaque affixed to the front of the plinth: Long gone the shaft, the tub, the face, / Long gone the black coal stains. / Wiped our hands, turned off the lamps, / But the village still remains. / Ray Lonsdale 2016 / AND THE VILLAGE REMAINS: THE LAST TUB / This statue is dedicated to all those people who lived and worked as part of the / South Hetton Colliery Community. / Those who were injured, lost their lives or had to carry on as a result, / are what made us the strong supportive community we are today. / The South Hetton Heritage Group would like to give their heartfelt thanks / to everyone who made a contribution to this project no matter how small, / without you we couldn't have created this permanent memorial / as a tribute to our village. We would especially like to thank Team Dad's Army / whose idea and sponsorship got the whole project started. / South Hetton Heritage Group / (List of names)
