The fountain has an octagonal stem on a cruciform base in a shallow circular basin, with a marine deity seated on each arm of the cross. The four deities, alternating male and female, form two pairs. Each male deity looks to his left to his female neighbour, who returns his gaze. The deities represent Neptune and Amphitrite, and Acis and Galatea. Above them, supported by the octagonal stem, is a shallow octagonal bowl, the rim of which is punctuated with 16 overflow outlets. Those at the corners are embellished with a motif of scallops and a Lancastrian rose, while those in the middle of each straight side are embellished with marine grotesques. The central stem rises from this to a smaller circular bowl which is surmounted by a mermaid holding a cornucopia from which water once issued.
