An interior with figures. On the extreme left is a four poster bed hung in blue-green material, and a chair over which is draped a gold dress. In the background is a dressing table and mirror, in front of which stands a young girl, combing her long auburn hair. She wears a white shawl, neutral bodice and long red skirt. She is reflected in the mirror. To the right sits a girl in a dark shawl and gold-lemon dress, watching the other dressing her hair. In the foreground on the right sits a man, also watching her. He wears a blue over jacket and light trousers. Beneath his chair is a black cat. In the next room on the extreme right, in the semi-darkness, an old woman lights a lamp or candle on a table; another figure stands behind her.
