A monochrome watercolour. A view in ink of the interior of the nave (looking west) of the church of Lindisfarne Priory. It depicts the lost south arcading and a blocked up west door. Two figures are depicted by the west door wearing coats and tricorn hats. Masonry blocks and vegetation in the foreground, vegetation on wall tops. It is probably by S. H. Grimm, c.1780. It is very similar to British Library Additional MS 15539, dated 1778 signed by Grimm. Handwritten in ink on the upper reverse of the watercolour is 'The nave of the Cathedral of Lindisfarne on holy Island Northumberland but making part of the Bishopric of Durham. The Episcopal See was transferred from Lindisfarne to Durham in 999, and in the Reign of William Rufus the present Cathedral of Durham was erected, and its nave built in imitation of this of Lindisfarne, for which it is improperly called a Durham in miniature.
