A seated soldier holding a bugle. Space has been left on his seat for another person to sit beside him. His presence in the garden is to generate thought and contemplation. The sculpture is accompanied by quarried blocks of stone into which are incised the words of a poem written during the First World War. The poem 'A Letter to Daddy' was written by a child mill worker from Chorley, a girl with the initials M. L., to her father serving in action.
