on the south front face is a bronze plaque with raised letters: THE HON: / FREDERICK JAS TOLLEMACHE / BORN 1804 DIED 1888. / HE REPRESENTED THIS BOROUGH / IN PARLIAMENT / WITH OCCASIONAL INTERVALS / FROM 1826 TO 1874. / ERECTED IN 1891 BY THE / FRIENDS WHO REVERED / HIS MEMORY / IRRESPECTIVE OF POLITICAL / OPINIONS.; at the top of the plaque is a winged horse and scroll with incised letters: CONFIDO CONQUIESCO
