A full-size bronze figure of a British soldier in military dress strides forward, with rifle slung, gazing to right. He stands on sarcophagus with rounded ends to the north and south and carved with a high-relief plaque on the east side and coats of arms on the remaining three sides. The sarcophagus is mounted on a base with inscriptions. The memorial was originally sited in the middle of Hills Road, but in 2012 was moved a short distance to the pavement in front of the Botanic Garden.
