The paddle steamer 'Duke of Richmond' was built in 1838 and lengthened in 1843. This ship mainly operated from Leith to Inverness and later Leith to Wick. During a voyage from Wick to Aberdeen the 'Duke of Richmond' went ashore near the mouth of the River Don in October 1859.
