The dead Christ is supported by Mary Magdalene to the right and a bearded, male figure, probably Joseph of Arimathea, who are preparing to wrap the body in a cloth shroud. The Virgin Mary stands to the right, her hands held together in prayer. The two Marys stand behind her. Saint John the Baptist stands at the centre, the ladder up to the cross visible in the background. In the background to the left, a helmeted Roman soldier stands with a male figure wearing a turban, possibly Nicodemus and another bearded man. Christ's crown of thorns and the crucifixion nails lie on the ground in the left foreground.
