An elaborate column with a square-plan base and panelled sides with basins on the east and west faces. The column reduces to an octagon, then tapers to become a circular-section modified Corinthian column. This is surmounted by a clock with an octagonal lantern above, in Gothic style, accompanied by a crown belfry, ball finial, and weather vane. The structure was moved a few metres to the east in 1992. Above the drinking fountain there is a lion's head above with a crest above with the words, 'GOD SPEED'. It is a multifunctional beacon with a weather vane, bell, light, clock, drinking well and post box.
