Archibald A. McGlashan was a student of the Glasgow School of Art (GSA) from 1906–1914 and eventually a member of the Society of Eight. Having been awarded a travelling scholarship by the GSA in his final year of study, McGlashan is known to have to visited France and Spain. This painting is in fact a copy of Titian's 'The Fall of Man' in the collection of The Prado in Madrid. Copying from the 'Masters' was common practice at the time and was thought to enhance a student's understanding of composition and technique.

This painting was lost in the fire in The Mackintosh Building at The Glasgow School of Art on 23rd May 2014.
