A watercolour of the back of a whitewashed Manx farmhouse, with a view through the open door into the scullery or dairy providing some of the only detail in the painting. Whitewashed farm buildings and mills were a popular (and challenging) topic for Knox as he tried to capture what was essentially a 'white box' and attempted to give it volume and make it three-dimensional on the paper. The work is made more stark and dramatic by capturing the farmhouse against a 'mackerel' cloud formation.
