Little is known about the origins of this painting. The picture is not dated but it was probably painted around 1884, shortly after the construction of No. 1 pier. The painting is impressionistic rather than architecturally accurate and makes an interesting contrast with the other townscapes in Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s collection.
