Ouless originally painted this picture in 1838 and subsequently repainted it on a number of occasions. By the time this painting was produced the scene would have been vastly different. The scene in 1875 would include the tracks of the Jersey Railway Company running the length of the bay with Victoria Avenue behind it and the harbour developments including Victorian Pier (built 1846) and Albert Pier (built 1853).
