The clothed female figure with outstretched arms at the top of the memorial represents Peace. Lower down on the right the seated female figure with a child playing on her lap has just been told of the death of her husband in the war. On the other side of the monument from her is a soldier sitting with his rifle and all the other equipment required for battle except for his steel helmet. The bronze relief at the front of the memorial shows three soldiers and one sailor marching. In the small sections of this relief 'wrapped' around the monument firstly on the left, there is a nurse tending a wounded soldier and then on the right a soldier comforting a woman. A small girl clutches at the woman’s dress. The relief at the back of the monument shows stretcher bearers carrying a wounded soldier.
