The 'Sports Man' represents both football and rugby players who have played on the Bargoed Basin Ground nearby. The design was developed with members of local sports clubs. The figure stands with crossed arms looking out over the woodland park and is sculpted to a point just below his knees below which the wood is left in its original tree trunk shape with just the bark removed.
