A roundabout sculpture featuring a cross beam with 12 'hands' spiralling round, each with a different motifs linked to the areas flora and fauna, horseracing and sunshine. 'Spiral Time' represents a fragment of time at Sowerby, moving forward in a cyclical passage to the future. Its form echoes the mechanism of a clock. Twelve hand-forged steel arms are arranged in a spiral around a central spine and they support 12 discs positioned like the numbers on a clock face when seen aligned on approach along Topcliffe Road. The 12 disc images have been developed from the existing image resource created in community workshop sessions depicting sustainability and local heritage. Sowerby Clock makes reference to the historic Thirsk Clock, as an equivalent landmark for Sowerby.
