Two larger than life-size soldiers of the Manchester Regiment. One soldier, with rifle and bayonet fixed, defends a wounded comrade slumped at his feet who is holding a cartridge. At the front of the plinth is a wreath of bay leaves. Bronze plaques are fixed on all sides recording the names of the dead and ending with the phrase '...and those others who cannot be named'.
