A cast of a bust by Robert William Sevier, made for Sir John Soane so that he could display it in the dome area at the back of his museum (the original being in the entrance hall). Thomas Lawrence was President of the Royal Academy of Arts while Soane was Professor of Architecture there. The leading role of the Royal Academy of Arts in the artistic life of the nation probably underlies Soane's placement of Lawrence so prominently at the heart of his arrangements.
