A sketch of an empty horizon from the deck of the 'Umberleigh'. Everett has used colour and form to interpret the scene. The waves on the calm sea are shown as lines of dark ridges of blue painted in a rhythmic pattern interspersed with yellow tones. The sky is shown bright with various shades of lemon-yellow and pink and where the sea and sky merge the horizon is painted in lilac tones. Everett sailed in the steamer, 'Umberleigh', from Barry, Wales, to Vancouver, Canada, in December 1933 and returned in March 1934. The painting is inscribed 'Um' verso.
