A rectangular plinth with diagonal buttresses carrying four rusticated 'rocks' which in turn support a rectangular sarcophagus with diagonal 'buttresses'. The plinth has a moulded offset base course and broad capping. The sarcophagus has a three-part architrave carrying a frieze with a series of triglyphs, in which the glyphs are raised rather than incised, and a deep cavetto cornice. The frieze has a carved legend reading: FRATERNI DIGNUS AMORIS (Worthy of Brotherly Love). The work was long thought to commemorate a race horse.
