The courtyard of an inn. Three gentlemen are standing in the centre of the image. The one in the middle is quite large with sideburns and is holding a walking stick, the one to the left is wearing glasses and a tailcoat. A small dog and a bucket are standing behind him. The third gentleman is turning his back to the other two and talking to a man, Sam Weller, at the right margin. He is wearing a striped waistcoat and battered top hat and is polishing a boot with a brush. His left foot rests on the bottom step of a staircase. Various shoes and boots are lying on the ground. Part of a building and three men in smocks are visible the background. The Dalziel brothers\' signature is in the lower left corner, Phiz\'s, inverted, in the lower right.
