A standing figure of Saint Andrew above the St Vincent Street entrance, interrupting a shallow string course running between the first and second floors. He is depicted standing at the prow of a ship, with a model ship in his hand and a saltire at his back. On either side of the door are columns topped with crouching figures each approximately 215 centimetres in height. On the right is a seafarer and on the left, a seafarer's wife. The male figure wears a heavy cape with upturned collar and holds a model ship; the female is dressed in a shawl and holds a pouch or money bag. Additional minor decorative work includes a pair of heraldic shields in low relief on the lintel of the main door: one is carved with a castle and inscribed 'EDINBURGH', and the other with a cross of Saint George and inscribed 'LONDON'.
