Between January and April 1910 Lucien Pissarro stayed at the Hotel Cadoret, Riec-sur-Belon, Brittany. He found the countryside inspiring but found it difficult to paint. This was because he felt he was in the shadow of his famous father, Camille Pissarro. Despite this, he completed ten paintings whilst there of which this is one.
