A three-quarter length, frontal figure of a female saint with long red hair and pale robes, kneeling before an open bible in the bottom right corner, with her hands clasped and head bowed in prayer. A cathedral interior is in the background with stone pillars and arches and a chequered black and white floor. This painting was identified in 2005 as the work of Joseph Van der Veken, a skilled restorer of early Netherlandish paintings. Having learnt the techniques of the old masters through copying and conserving original paintings, van der Veken was able to make pastiches of his own that combined elements of original works. This painting copies a figure by Dieric Bouts (c.1415–1475) onto an architectural interior scene borrowed from elsewhere, which explains why the saintly figure relates so uncomfortably to her background.
