Pissarro painted his last works at Le Havre between July and September 1903. They generally show the port, full of bustle and activity, in bold, geometric compositions. This is the smallest, painted on 'batiste', a form of cambric, and shows the view from his room at the Hôtel Continental on the main quay of the inner harbour. It was painted during poor weather at the end of July.
